Spring is pine and creek country. Loblolly pines a hundred feet tall stand over most of the older neighborhoods, with water oaks and willow oaks underneath, and Spring Creek and Cypress Creek run along the edges. It is a beautiful canopy and a demanding one: pines die fast when they are stressed, water oaks get brittle with age, and every big storm finds the weak ones.
Dead and dying pines are the number one call in Spring. Once a pine browns out it should come down soon, because dead pine gets brittle and dangerous to climb within months. Water oaks past fifty or sixty years are the second: they hollow out and shed large limbs. We take both down in sections, lowered on ropes where the tree stands over a house.
Pines get dead limbs cleaned out over roofs and drives. Oaks are raised off the house and thinned outside the oak wilt season. Crepe myrtles are shaped without topping them.
